A
dynamic photographic twist of mind, body and machine.
Sara
Liberte melts a person’s soul and the spirit of a
motorcycle
together in her art of Image Fusion.
To understand people and capture the soul that drives
them is a gift granted to us in glimpses by Sara. She
turned her passion for art and motorcycles into pieces
she dubs
Image Fusion. Along with one of her latest
IF projects, Builder & Machine, she spends
time as the photography editor of Cycle Source
magazine and maintains her online showroom of work. Her photography
has been displayed in galleries and donned the pages
of national motorcycle magazines including Easy Rider, In
the Wind and Iron Works. Sara's had her
sites set on visual art beginning with her degree in
photography from Montserrat College of Art in 1997.
But there's another side to Sara: custom bike builder!
She was born into a family
with a strong mechanical backbone.
Sara spent
most of her time growing up getting hands on
training in the family’s steel fabrication shop, and
assisting with the builds of hot rods and muscle cars.
In fact, her 16th birthday present was a 1966 Ford
Mustang “basket case” which she restored with the
guidance of her father and brother. Soon to follow,
she got a taste of the wind riding around on an ATV,
which sparked her interest in motorcycles. Sara dove
right in to hone her motorcycle mechanical skills by
revamping and rebuilding her 1978 Harley-Davidson XLCR
Cáfe Racer she purchased after college. With
Sara's knowledge and skill, she was destined to become
co-owner and co-operator of
RT's North Hills Cycle in
Pennsylvania, where she and her partner, Ron Tonetti,
pour their heart and soul into building custom
choppers from the ground up.
It would be hard not to
envy Sara, but she reveals that her life is not all
"glitz and glam"... working in a garage can be a very
tough, thankless job. Perhaps that's why she has the
unique ability to capture the essence in a photograph
of hard-working people just like herself. Whatever
reason it might be, she has indeed uniquely placed
herself in a world where art and machines truly blend
together. Her life is art and she rides it.
Catch Sara at her next event where she will be holding
a seminar on her new book, How to Repair and
Maintain American V-Twin Motorcycles (a book too --
yes we know she is amazing!) and displaying her
artwork at the Carlisle Summer Bike Fest on July
21-23 in Carlisle, PA. And if you haven't
already, buy a piece from her Image Fusion gallery
while they're still affordable (we did) because they're certain to become a collector's item!
