Helmet Hair’s TOP TEN:                  Street Riding Gear for Women

HH weighs-in (thanks for your help) on the Top 10  companies that prove they care about street riding gear for women. Our helmets off to you!

#1 ICON – Icon grabs first place in our book with their full line of gear that was thoughtfully designed for the female fit in mind. Their leathers are loaded with CE approved armor that fits comfortably, and their designs scream “eat my baby-blue dust.” From Icon’s new hot pink helmet to their rock’n “Kitty” chaps, your choice for protective gear just got sassier.

#2 Joe Rocket Joe Rocket provides another great example of a company that offers a full line of gear for women. They have one of the best women’s textile line in the states because the jackets and pants are breathable, waterproof and equipped with lots of comfortable body armor and reflective stripes – all cleverly disguised in fashion forward styles that rest sleekly on all womankind.

#3 Frank Thomas Hot on Joe Rocket’s back fender is the Frank Thomas brand. Similar in style, fit and price, they have done their homework on gear that works well on women. Frank Thomas has a competitive selection that successfully combines quality and hip design to land our third choice.

#4 The G Line Attention all female riders with attitude: there’s now a new line that was made for you. The G Line is the gutsiest street riding gear available. Why? Because women are behind the designs. Check out the G Line's web site to see where women’s gear is headed. PS. We really dig the Salinas jacket.

#5 Draggin' Jeans - Need no-nonsense riding gear? Try the iconic look and feel of blue jeans with one very important ingredient added to the lining: Kevlar, or what Helmet Hair refers to as the miracle, man-made fabric. Soft on the outside, but tough as nails, this flame, road rash and slash-resistant material does it all. Choose from the classic jean, to urban styles of the cargo, chino and combat variety. Draggin' jeans designer, Bethany Davis, even won an International award for her “Monza” two-piece riding suit. Throw ‘em in the wash and you’ll want nothing more.

#6 Alpine Stars - Alpine Stars takes their moto race gear to the streets with a cool line called “Stella.” From leathers to textiles, they offer a healthy selection of protective two-pieces, jackets, pants and boots that fit women like a glove.

#7 FOX CREEK LEATHERS –  Ahhh… the classic motorcycle jacket, it’s so untimely. A must for every rider’s closet. Fox Creek does a brilliant job at producing fine riding leathers (made in the USA) that are both tough and flattering on women. Don‘t fit in the manufacture’s “standard" size? Fox Creek will custom make a garment - a service that barely exists in our world today.

#8 HEIN GERICKE – European women have enjoyed quality, stylish protective riding gear for many years, so it’s no surprise Hein Gericke gets it right. The design of their riding pants is so functional as the look is natural both on and off your bike. HG’s full line of fem gear is slowly reaching our shores (look closely at the G Line mentioned above), but if you want to buy it now, check out their online store.

#9 Harley Davidson - You know the macho brand, but did you know that HD proves committed to women riders by offering a full line of protective gear in both their retail and online stores? From leathers to textiles, if sporting the HD logo is your “thang,“ then they have you covered.

#10 Power Trip - This line offers ladies a very cool Retro-looking leather riding jacket that is complete with zipper-controlled vents and adjustable waistband (comes in great colors, too). Power Trip also has top-of the-line pants, chaps, and gloves especially for women.

Reader Rant:

"I have never given into
pressure of what I am
supposed to 'look' like to
be a biker, this has served
me well as I have had the
privilege of riding with
other bikers of all ilk.
A name on a jacket, how
stylish your boots are,
mean nothing compared
to being a good safe rider.
Besides - all women look
sexy on a bike!"

Rave:

"I have been riding for
almost two decades and I'm
really impressed with the
variety of stylish, safety gear
..finally!"
